April 2008 –
Benefit Dinner Postponed / Project Comfort works
towards Independence
The
dinner has been temporarily postponed due to
conditions beyond our control. We will let when
a new date is scheduled. On
a lighter note Project Comfort has decided
to move forward by applying for our
501(c)3 status which would better enable
us to raise and use funds to
help the children whom which our cause is for.
We will continued to keep you update about this as
well
February 2008 – Second Annual
Orphans Benefit Dinner
The 2nd Annual benefit dinner is scheduled to take place on April 26, 2008. Last year Project Comfort raised over $15,000 by its supports for projects to support orphaned children in Ethiopia. This year we have teamed up with anonymous donors who are willing to match up $20,000 of money raised from this second benefit dinner giving us the ability to make up to twice or even three times as before. Funds raised will be going towards the remaining construction and administration of the new boarding school for orphaned girls located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
January 2008 – Building a New Boarding School for Orphaned/Disadvantaged girls
Project Comfort and two other important key players Dr. Larry Thomas founder of Tropical Alliance and Dr. Fekede Gemechu founder of International Medical Aid Association will be developing an all-girls boarding school for poor orphans and vulnerable adolescents. Currently the building is undergoing construction, and plans are to open the facility in fall of 2008.
December 2007 - Orphans transportation
Our transportation program continues as six orphaned children are brought to the capital to be placed in orphanages where they receive shelter, food, and clothing. This program is led out by our associates Sisters Mati and Suzi of the Daughters of Charity.
November 2007 - Ethiopia Trip 2
Sarah has just returned from her second mission trip to Ethiopia where she worked with Project Comfort’s many projects. Financial help to the Lutheran family placement program for orphans continues under the leadership of Reverend Thomas Haase. Aid has also been provided to the Daughters of Charity feeding, schooling, and medical programs for orphans and impoverished children. The most amazing part of the trip, however, was the transportation of another orphan named Xerusalem who was tossed down a pit toilet to die. She was rescued and transported by our Project Comfort team to an orphanage in Addis Ababa where she received shelter, clothes, and food.
July 2007 - Ethiopia Trip 1
We have returned from our trip to Ethiopia, and what a trip it was. The situation there can be quite grim at times. There are homeless children everywhere just trying to survive. We talked with a number of people including multiple groups in Gimbi, Ethiopia that are trying to accomplish the same goals as Project Comfort such as a local Lutheran organization and a local catholic nun organization. Communication with the local government was also accomplished. A trip out to a country town called Dembidollo also showed us the need in the even more rural areas of Ethiopia where we can aid other programs that help orphan children. The highlight of the trip was the transportation of an infanct child named Dandy. She was rescued from her mother who was trying to sufocate her. We successfully brought her to an orphanage in the city of Addis Ababa where she was able to get shelter, food, and clothes.
